ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his Top 4 teams on Twitter earlier today, and the results are seriously mind-boggling.
OK, Clemson and Alabama are understandable. The Tigers knocked off Wake Forest with ease and the Crimson Tide did the same to FCS opponent Charleston Southern, so they’ve earned the top two spots.
But it’s clear that Herbstreit’s Big Ten and Power 5 bias is shining through here. Michigan State definitely deserves to rocket up the rankings after knocking off Ohio State, but what about undefeated Iowa? The Hawkeyes destroyed Purdue to prove that they are indeed for real and thus earned a date with the Big Ten Championship Game.
And Oklahoma? They only beat TCU because of bad play-calling on the Horned Frogs’ end when it mattered most. The fact that Iowa and Notre Dame aren’t in his Top 4 is definitely a head scratcher.
Needless to say, Herbstreit’s predictions should be ones to watch once the next playoff rankings are released.
