Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen is going to be the top choice for many schools with coaching vacancies this year, with Virginia Tech already having expressed interest.
However, Mullen could have his eyes on another position.
According to a report from 247 Sports, Mullen is interested in the head coaching position at the University of Virginia.
This is certainly an interesting development, as the Cavaliers currently have Mike London in that position. But London has also gone 27-45 (q4-33 ACC) in six years with the Cavaliers, and the writing appears to be on the wall.
If he is retained, it will be nothing short of a miracle.
Mullen does not have any ties to the state of Virginia, but his spread offense could be just what the doctor ordered for a Virginia team that has not made much noise in the ACC since the days of Al Groh.
On top of that, he has basically peaked at Mississippi State and could be headed for a rebuilding phase as Dak Prescott is set to graduate and receiver De’Runnya Wilson is likely turning pro.
That said, though nothing is definite yet, keep an eye on Mullen’s name in the coming weeks as he will surely be interviewed for multiple openings.
