At this point in the season, it’s safe to say that anything can happen when it comes to the College Football Playoff. In the end, only four teams will make it into the playoff and right now, it’s fairly obvious who those teams could be.
Apparently, ESPN’s FiveThirtyEight believe that 13 teams still have a shot at the playoff.
The site gave the probabilities of the next few games what would happen if certain scenarios occur and currently, only five teams control their own destiny right now.
So by this, if the top five teams on their list win out, there will be only team that made the playoff last year to make it in this year (Alabama). It also says that the Big Ten champion will likely fit into the four spot, where Iowa sits right now.
It’s also interesting to note that the North Carolina Tar Heels will only have a 39-percent chance to make it to the College Football Playoff even if they win out; which means they would beat an undefeated Clemson team. Honestly, I think it would be very hard for the voters to pass on the Tar Heels if they are to win out, but that’s why I get paid to speculate and not actually vote.
Whatever happens, the end of the season is going to be a very interesting one and it’s hard to believe that there won’t be a CFP expansion in the near future.
