LeBron James has always been one of the nicest top-tier athletes in professional sports. From helping kids go to college to his own personal foundation, James has never been one to be criticized for being a “full of himself” athlete.
He’s always been humble and heartfelt about those around him which makes this story that much more sad.
On his Instagram account on Thanksgiving, James posted a farewell message to Ebony Nettles-Bay, a fan who he befriended during his time in Miami. Nettles-Bay unfortunately succumbed to her battle with brain cancer.
“R.I.P Ebony! Truly will miss you as well as you’re loved ones will as well!,” his post said. “Incredible spirit and energy about u that not many can say they carry daily! Shed a few tears when they came and told me today but I know you’re in a better place now. Will never forget the smiles and laughs we shared together! #LiveOnEbony #TheHellWithCancer”
To hell with cancer is right. It’s an ugly beast that impacts everyone around the World. Our thoughts are with the Nettles-Bay family, and we know James is going to have even more motivation for a championship run this season.
