Oakland Athletics pitcher Sean Doolittle and his girlfriend Eireann Dolan went to Chicago for Thanksgiving, but not just because they were visiting family.
Instead, the couple, alongwith Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel and several city alderman, provided a Thanksgiving dinner for the city’s 17 Syrian refugee families. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the dinner was organized by the Syrian Community network and included over 70 refugees resettled in Chicago due to the ongoing conflict in their country.
Chicago is so lucky to have 17 Syrian refugee families now officially calling it home. We thought we’d officially welcome them with one of our greatest American traditions, Thanksgiving. Thank you to Mayor Emanuel and Alderman Burke for joining the party! If you’d like to sponsor a refugee family in Chicago, link is in my bio #refugeeswelcome
Dolan posted a blog on her own family’s immigrant experience, a great message during this time of confusion in our own country and others.
You have to love this. Doolittle and everyone involved really embraced the holiday spirit.
