San Jose State’s Ron Caragher’s job safe despite losing season

The San Jose Spartans had a decent season this year, but it seemed to have ended on Friday when they fell to 5-7 after a loss to Boise State. With so many bowl games this year, 5-7 could still get this team into a bowl game, but it is unlikely that they will be one of the teams selected.

According to the Contra Costa Times, it looks like the Spartans won’t join the twelve other teams in the FBS with a coaching vacancy. The school’s athletic director Gene Bleymayer said that head coach Ron Caragher’s job is still safe despite the losing record.

“There’s no question about his status. Ron’s our coach, and he’ll be our coach going forward.”

Caragher is in his third season with the Spartans. In his first year, he led the team to a 6-6 record, but the team was not invited to a bowl game.
