Justin Fuente turned down ’12 opportunities’ for Virginia Tech

Justin Fuente was able to revive the Memphis Tigers football program, produce a potential No. 1 overall pick in quarterback Paxton Lynch and parlay that success into a head coaching job with the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Fuente was one of the hottest candidates in the coaching circuit and an interview after officially accepting the Hokies job revealed just how highly-sought after the 39 year old was.

While speaking with Local Memphis, Fuente said that he “turned down 12 opportunities” before ultimately accepting the gig with Virginia Tech.

Fuente will take over for longtime head coach Frank Beamer in Blacksburg and will have some huge shoes to fill.

However, if he is able to replicate his blueprint that led to success in Memphis, Fuente has all of the talent to help restore Virginia Tech to glory.
