USC, Jimbo Fisher had mutual interest?

ESPN college football reporter Joe Schad went on SportsCenter earlier today and reported that USC had their eyes on Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano, before naming Clay Helton head coach.

No surprises there, until he went on to say that the interest was mutual.

Interesting that a juggernaut of a program like Southern Cal wouldn’t go for either one of those names, and instead settle on a first time head coach in Helton. Helton has done a good job since taking over for Steve Sarkisian at mid-season, however, the hire was a little underwhelming.

After Sarkisian’s dismissal, the Trojans have gone 5-2 and are set to face Stanford in the Pac-12 title game.
