This contradicts a report from yesterday which stated that Meacham was the front-runner for the position with the Mean Green and that Sonny Cumbie would likely stay on at TCU. Now, it’s looking both will remain with the program, barring certain rumors of Cumbie headed to join Charlie Strong at Texas.

Thus, North Texas’ search for a new coach will continue. The team fired coach Dan McCarney earlier this season after going 22-32 in four-and-a-half years, and the team went 1-5 under interim coach Mike Canales after starting 0-5 in 2015.

Whoever the team hires next, they’ll need to have some decent long-term potential as Conference USA is becoming more and more competitive by the day with schools like Western Kentucky and Southern Miss only continuing to improve.
