William Poole is a five-star cornerback in the 2017 college football recruiting class and is a major target of the Georgia Bulldogs. After the hiring of Kirby Smart last night, Poole took to Twitter and said that he “smells a championship” coming for Georgia in the coming years.
That is a great sign for Georgia’s future recruiting and also shows what recruits think of Smart already.
That is one of the tweets that is left on his timeline, though he apparently deleted the tweet about the championship soon after posting it. It was not deleted in time, however, as many others saw it.
Georgia has to be feeling very good about their chances to land Poole following this move to bring Smart on board. He has ties to the Bulldogs and went to school there himself.
Smart has also grown under Nick Saban and that kind of experience is extremely valuable to assistant coaches who get head coaching gigs.
Mark Richt will be missed in Georgia, but the time comes for every team to move on from their coach at one point or another. Smart is the right move for the Bulldogs and will help take the team to new heights.
Adding a piece like Poole to the secondary would be a big get for Smart as one of his first recruits and he needs to capitalize on the obvious excitement that the star defensive back has for the school.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what Smart is able to accomplish with Georgia over the next few years.
