The BYU Cougars started the season looking like one of the hottest teams to open the year. It looked like they could have been sneaking into a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl game, but they started to fall off later in the year.
Despite the falloff, the Cougars finished the year 8-4 and they will be getting into a bowl game. According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, the Cougars have accepted a bowl invitation to the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl.
Not only will the Cougars be spending the first part of their Christmas break in Vegas, they will be playing on the first day of the bowl season. The Cougars played in the Las Vegas Bowl five straight times from 2005-2009, but they haven’t played in it since.
The Cougars are 3-2 in the bowl game and last won 44-20 over Oregon State in 2009. The game takes place on December 19 and will be televised at 5:30 p.m. EST on the ESPN family of networks.
