The 2015 college football season has certainly been full of big guys making unbelievable plays. These guys don’t usually get recognized other than a ten-second clip on SportsCenter, so SB Nation wants to do something about that.
Before the season began, the site announced they would be creating a brand new award called the Piesman Trophy, parodying the Heisman Trophy given out to skill guys every year.
It has been tough, but the site finally narrowed down their list to three finalists.
Jack Allen at Michigan State has not only been a great center for the Spartans this year, he also made one of the most memorable plays for the team this season. In a blowout win against Penn State last week, Allen scored a touchdown on a nine-yard run that included one of the sickest stiff arms I have ever seen.
Southeastern Louisiana’s Ashton Henderson made one of the most athletic plays in the entire country this year. The 320-pound defensive tackle picked up a fumble and rumbled 45 yards for a touchdown, hurdling one of his fallen teammates in the process, which is scary good.
Miami’s Ufomba Kamalu also made an athletic play this year on a big fumble return. The video of his return and nasty stiff arm on Georgia Tech quarterback Matthew Jordan went viral on Twitter and Facebook, but I almost have to disqualify him for fumbling before getting into the endzone.
The three finalists will be invited to a ceremony in New York City. The award will be handed out on December 11, one night before the Heisman Trophy is awarded.
