Josh Thomson thinks a fight with Michael Chandler will boost Bellator ratings

Josh Thomson is set to fight Pablo Villaseca at Bellator 147 in the main event and recently spoke with MMAjunkie to promote that fight. According to Thomson, he wants to fight on Rizin’s New Year’s Eve card and then fight Michael Chandler. Big plans for the veteran.

“If I get through this fight, I want to get on the Japan New Year’s Eve show. If I get through that fight without any injuries, I want to fight on the January show and the February show with Ken (Shamrock) and Royce (Gracie).”

Thomson then explained that he needs to get some impressive wins on the Bellator roster to build up to a fight with Chander so Bellator will get better ratings.

“I need to go out there and get some wins and some impressive wins on the Bellator roster so we can build up to a Chandler fight and we can get good ratings. At the end of the day, Bellator is about the ratings and about making sure we have enough behind me and these other guys to go ahead and put on a great show,” Thomson said. “I’m excited for the Chandler fight. I’m licking my chops for it.”

Thomson (21-8-) is currently on a one-fight winning streak. In his last six bouts, he’s 3-3.

“I saw a couple messages of people who want me to fight Will Brooks, but more people have commented on me fighting Chandler. That lets you know that there’s fans that want to see certain fights, and that fight is going to be important. I want to make sure when we fight, it’s a good show, and we draw in numbers. I need to make sure I win my fights, so people want to see me fight Chandler,” he finished.

Bellator 147 takes place, Friday, December 4, 2015, at San Jose State University in San Jose, California. The event will air live in prime time on Spike TV. The prelims will start at 6 p.m. ET on while the main card starts at 9 p.m. ET.
