In November, Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin was reported to be a frontrunner for the head coaching job at Maryland. After it was rumored that former Georgia head coach Mark Richt had interviewed for the job, it looks like the Terrapins are going in a completely different direction.
According to SI’s Pete Thamel, Durkin is expected to be named the next head coach in College Park. This comes less than two months after Randy Edsall was relieved of his duties as the head coach.
Durkin was brought in by Jim Harbaugh to run the defense for the Wolverines this year. He spent four seasons with the Florida Gators (two as linebackers coach, two as DC) before leaving for Ann Arbor.
There is no word on if Durkin will remain with the Wolverines to coach their bowl game.
