Jahlil Okafor has been impossible to avoid lately, although he’s making news for all the wrong reasons. News about him fighting, speeding and using fake ID’s are talked about more than his stat sheet nowadays.
Therefore, on Wednesday night after the Blue Devils knocked off Indiana at Cameron Indoor Stadium, Mike Krzyzewski came out with some strong words in support of his former star.
“Jah’s one of the great kids ever,” Coach K said. “Ever ever ever. You get into some situations. He needs to move on. He also needs to have security. When we’re with the US team, we have security for everybody. All those guys are targets. You’ve got to be smart about that. He was not. He apologized.”
“Anybody who pictures that kid as a bad kid, you gotta be kidding me. He’s one of the most loving, good kids that has ever been on this earth. He did a couple stupid things. Knock him. Suspend him. And move on. Don’t characterize him as that.”
“He is NOT that. He is a special, special human being.”
Well that last part is definitely true, any 19-year-old who makes it as the No.3 pick in the NBA Draft is special, but he needs to show something else to prove he’s also a special human being not just a special ball player.
As of right now, Okafor is showing that he’s no more special than any other 19-year-old kid/
Hopefully with all these incidents coming to light he makes some positive changes, before he derails his career before it even started.
