Coldplay will perform the halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl, according to a tweet from Dennis K. Berman of The Wall Street Journal.
Coldplay is a far cry from recent halftime acts, as the last five years have shifted more towards hip hop and pop as opposed to generic rock. Fans have received the likes of Madonna, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and The Black Eyed Peas, but now get to go back to what the Super Bowl is all about: good old-fashioned rock and roll.
OK, so maybe Coldplay doesn’t fit the mold of recent halftime rock acts like The Who or The Rolling Stones, but their music is still decent enough. With songs like “Yellow,” “Violet Hill” and “A Rush of Blood To the Head,” the halftime show should be a good one!
Coldplay’s seventh studio album, A Head Full of Dreams, comes out tomorrow.
