Today, the NCAA chose to move up Jim Boeheim’s nine game suspension. Unfortunately, the suspension will begin on Saturday which means the Syracuse Orange head coach will be absent from the bench when his team takes on former Big East rival Georgetown.
Initially, the NCAA ruled that Boeheim would miss Syracuse’s first nine ACC games of the season.
However, with a recent suspension to SMU’s Larry Brown, the NCAA ultimately determined that Boeheim’s suspension should not be limited to conference games. As a result, the suspension begins sooner than anticipated.
In Boeheim’s absence, assistant coach Mike Hopkins will lead the team.
Boeheim, who cannot contact his players during his suspension, is eligible to return on January 9 against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
