Missouri will promote defensive coordinator Barry Odom to head coach, per a tweet from ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.
Odom played linebacker for the Tigers from 1996 to 1999 and will succeed Gary Pinkel, who went 118-73 as the team’s coach from 2001 up until this year. Pinkel announced last month that he was stepping down at season’s end after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Thus, it should be a smooth transition in Columbia as Odom knows Pinkel’s system and many of the players on the team. At just 39 years old, he could easily set himself for a long and prosperous career with the Tigers.
