Report: Auburn likely headed to Birmingham Bowl

|

There have already been five bowl slots filled for the 2015-16 college football bowl season. No teams from the Power Five conference schools have accepted a bowl invitation just yet, but it looks like one from the SEC could be the first.

According to AL.com, the Auburn Tigers are likely not going to have to travel very far for their bowl game. Sources are telling them that they will get an invite to the Birmingham Bowl this year.

The Kentucky Wildcats were likely going to end with an invitation to that bowl game, but their meltdown against Louisville is going to keep the Tigers from moving up or down on the bowl list at this point. An Alabama win in the SEC Championship would likely allow Ole Miss to get into the Sugar Bowl and drop Florida to the Citrus Bowl, all but guaranteeing the Tigers’ spot in the bowl game at Legion Field.

It is also likely that Auburn will face either Cincinnati or Memphis of the AAC in the bowl this year. The game is scheduled to kick off on December 30 at 12 noon EST.
