Report: Pruitt won’t follow Richt, interested in Michigan DC job

With the hiring of Kirby Smart as the new head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, it is very likely that he will be going in a different direction for his coordinating staff. That means that first-year defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt will likely be a free agent in the very near future.

Miami hired Mark Richt as their new head coach on Wednesday, so some believed that Pruitt follow him down to South Beach. However, Josh Newberg of 247Sports is reporting that Pruitt will not follow Richt and is actually interested in the same job at Michigan, which was left open after D.J. Durkin took the head coaching job at Maryland.

Source tells me Jeremy Pruitt will not be going with Mark Richt to Miami.

I expect Jeremy Pruitt to land at Alabama replacing Kirby Smart. I'm told he's also interested in Michigan DC job.

It would make since for Pruitt to head back to Alabama at this point since he was the defensive backs coach from 2007-2012 and knows that defense very well. It would also be a good hire for the Wolverines since he has a lot of experience coaching big time defenses.
