Tulane University has found its new Athletic Director. The school has announced that it has hired Northern Iowa AD Troy Dannen to help rebuild the program after having success at his previous post.
“Troy has demonstrated outstanding leadership and success in every job, at every level,” Tulane president Michael Fitts stated in a press release on the hire. “His dedication to his student-athletes and his goal to win championships in every sport are testament to his enthusiasm and his dedication to his profession. On a personal note, I know that Troy’s engaging personality, warmth and tremendous energy level will endear him to our student-athletes and fans.”
Dannen had been the AD at Northern Iowa, his alma mater, since 2008. He was chosen as one of the Athletic Director’s of the year in 2013-14. Dannen has helped the UNI athletics program reach the top 10 percent in Academic Progress Rate (APR). One of his main goals is to do just that.
His first major task, however, will be to find the school’s next football coach. Tulane fired Curtis Johnson after his second straight 3-9 season. The Northern Iowa football has become a playoff contender while the basketball team has made the NCAA tournament three times since taking over — 2009, 2010 and 2015.
Dannen takes over for current AD Rick Dickson, who is stepping down at the end of June.
