UFC returning to Pittsburgh in February 2016

|

The Steel City is finally welcoming back a major mixed martial arts promotion.

On Thursday night, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that they will be returning to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the first UFC event since 2011.

The UFC event will be held at the Consol Energy Center on Feb. 21, 2016.

The news was first reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

No fights have been announced by the promotion at this time, but additional information will come in the following weeks. The event is expected to be a Fight Night airing on FOX Sports 1.

The last time the UFC traveled to Pittsburgh, fans were treated to an epic heavyweight clash between Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo which is remembered as one of the wildest, most epic comebacks in MMA history.

If the 2016 event can replicate that excitement, fans in Pittsburgh will be in for a treat.
