Texas WRs coach Jay Norvell interviewed for ASU OC position

AriTexas wide receivers coach Jay Norvell has interviewed for the offensive coordinator position at Arizona State, according to Texas beat writer Alex Dunlap.

Per @OB_JasonS Texas playcaller Jay Norvell interviewed for the Arizona State OC position yesterday. News coming in like crazy at OB #HookEm

Norvell, 52, has a lengthy coaching career that goes back to 1986. He has served as an offensive coordinator in some way, shape or form since 2004, when he was with Nebraska. Norvell has also served at UCLA and Oklahoma, among other schools.

Norvell was given exclusive play-calling duties one game into this season, when Shawn Watson was demoted by Longhorns coach Charlie Strong. Texas finished 94th in total offense, but showed flashes of high-scoring potential more than once.

Given how Arizona State finished 25th in total offense and offensive coordinator Mike Norvell (no relation) is headed to succeed Justin Fuente at Memphis, hiring Jay Norvell could certainly maintain the Sun Devils’ offensive attack should he be the chosen candidate.
