David Johnson, Tulane’s running back and tight end coach, is leaving the school to take a position on the staff of the Memphis Tigers. This news comes via The Times-Picayune in New Orleans.
Johnson had been with the Green Wave for the last four seasons, but is now heading to a likely bigger position with Memphis. The exact position he is taking with the program hasn’t been officially announced. His departure follows the school’s firing of head coach Curtis Johnson after the team’s season ended against Tulsa.
Before his position with Tulane, Johnson was a high school head coach for three years.
According to the report, the hiring will be announced by Memphis on Tuesday. The Tigers are filling up a new staff after Justin Fuente took the head coaching job at Virginia Tech. Former Arizona State offensive coordinator Mike Norvell was hired to be the head coach of the Tigers.
