The Heisman Trophy finalists were announced yesterday, and LSU star running back Leonard Fournette was not one of them despite having a respectable season. Fournette himself was bummed that he was not invited to the ceremony and expressed as much on Twitter.
But Fournette has one key man in his corner: LSU coach Les Miles, who tweeted the following.
Fournette ran for 1,741 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2015 and was definitely generating a lot of Heisman buzz, but was proved human when he was limited to just 31 yards and a touchdown on just 19 carries against Alabama. He never quite looked the same after that and neither did LSU, who lost three of their last four games after a 7-0 start.
The good news is that Fournette is still a year away from being NFL Draft-eligible, so he’ll be able to play in 2016 and will surely be a top contender for the award then, especially if Alabama running back Derrick Henry makes the much-anticipated jump to the NFL.
