NCAA has no issue with Monmouth Bench Mob

The Monmouth Hawks are off to an excellent start this year, though their bench players going nuts after big plays has also gone viral. This enthusiasm has led them to being called the Monmouth Bench Mob and their party was reportedly about to be crashed by the NCAA, according to ESPN’s Jay Bilas.

However, that report has since been debunked, it seems. According to a statement from NCAA media coordinator David Worlock, as reported by Rob Dauster of NBC Sports’ College Basketball Talk, the rules are not being rewritten and the bench celebrations are A-OK so long as they don’t spill out onto the court.

Thus, the Hawks’ celebrations will surely continue for now and the rest of the season. Monmouth is only 5-3 on the year, but has already beaten the likes of UCLA, Notre Dame and USC. Needless to say, should their fast and feisty play continue, the squad from the MAAC could very well become an NCAA Tournament contender.
