Rimington Trophy finalists include Michigan State, ‘Bama centers

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Michigan State Spartans face off in the College Football Playoff in three weeks. While the teams are getting prepared for the game, two of players in it are set to face off for one of the biggest awards in college football.

The Rimington Trophy is awarded to the nation’s best center and this year, both the Spartan and Crimson Tide centers have been named finalists. Jack Allen from Michigan State and Ryan Kelly from Alabama join Austin Blythe from Iowa as the three finalists for the award this year.

Allen has started 46 games in his career with the Spartans and was named to the 2014 All-American team. He has done a great job of protecting Connor Cook, only allowing three career sacks.

Kelly has been the offensive leader through his 34 starts with the Crimson Tide and this year he has proven his worth again. He has 16 knockdowns and hasn’t allowed a sack at all this year.

Blythe has started 44 straight games in his career with the Hawkeyes. He has also been the anchor for this team that has scored an average of 32.1 points on their way to a Rose Bowl bid.
