Providence Friars forward Ben Bentil will receive an x-ray on his injured left ankle, according to Rob Dauster of NBC Sports’ College Basketball Talk.
Bentil injured his ankle in yesterday’s win against Boston College and, hopefully, he won’t miss extended time. He is probably the most improved player in the Friars this year, posting 17.9 points and 7.2 rebounds in his sophomore season. Against the Eagles, he had 16 points and eight boards in the first half.
Providence coach Ed Cooley was brief in addressing the injury.
“He’s sore,” head coach Ed Cooley said. “He’ll get an x-ray and hopefully he’s okay.”
Losing Bentil for an extended period of time would be devastating for Providence, who currently ranks 15th in the AP Poll. On top of that, star guard Kris Dunn sat out the second half with a stomach bug. His absence won’t be extended, but Providence cannot win on scoring alone which is why fans should cross their fingers that Bentil won’t miss a lot of time, though the fact that he was on crutches after the game is a concerning sign.
