This year, there has been a slew of controversy when it comes to officiating. Most of that controversy has come from the ACC, especially in the Miami/Duke game that ended on a crazy, 8-lateral play on the final kickoff that gave the Hurricanes the win.
On further inspection of the play, it was clear that there was more than one missed call on the return. The ACC subsequently suspended the entire officiating crew from the game in an effort to ramp up awareness in the future.
It doesn’t look like that suspension has worked as the referees for the College Football Playoff were recently revealed. This year, the title game will be refereed by PAC-12 officials, in the most appropriate way possible.
This certainly looks like a wake up call to the ACC referees. They have been pretty bad all season long and they now have to pay for it.
Maybe next season, I guess?
