Northwestern taking shots at Tennessee ahead of Outback Bowl

The Outback Bowl is possibly one of the stranger match-ups of the entire bowl season. The 10-2 Northwestern Wildcats earned their way into the game and they truly deserve their spot in the game.

As for Tennessee, the team went 8-4 and had a truly fantastic season, losing to two of the four College Football Playoff teams by a combined 12 points along the way. However, it would seem that some believed other SEC teams were more deserving of the spot in Tampa Bay, Florida.

It seems right now that Northwestern is one of those collective groups of people to believe that. Kevin Trahan, a Northwestern blogger for SB Nation, took a big shot at the Volunteers after seeing that they were ragging on the Wildcats across the Twitter world.

Not only was this just the beginning of the trash talk, it set Trahan off. He then went on to mention that the Volunteers haven’t been relevant since their 13-7 loss to Wyoming in 2008, which is partially true since they haven’t won more than 8 games since.

He also pointed out that they play in the worst Power Five division in college football. It is ranked eighth on the list, much farther down than the Big Ten West.

They were also pretty happy about going 6-6 last season.

@k_trahan well UT dominated Iowa in jan and had 45k more fans than they did at the bowl..and iowa is 10 times better than NW

Well, this is certainly going to be a terrific way to begin the New Year, isn’t it? The game begins at 12 noon EST on January 1 and it will be televised on ESPN.
