The College Football Awards happened last night and though many great young players were in attendance, one was absent in Florida State running back Dalvin Cook.
Given how Cook basically carried the Seminoles’ offense this season despite playing through a hamstring injury, one teammate in receiver Kermit Whitfield took to Twitter to say just how he felt about Cook not getting his due credit in the awards department.
Granted, Cook did have an excellent year to the tune of 1,658 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2015, but his injury kept him from being as consistent as the likes of LSU’s Leonard Fournette or Alabama’s Derrick Henry. On top of that, most who won last night played for teams that were regularly in the playoff picture, with very few exceptions, while Florida State lost two of three games at one point and knocked itself out of contention as a result.
Thus, though Cook did have a very good season, it was not on the same level as some of his peers and while it is sad that he did fly under the radar, it just means he’ll have to use next year to prove his critics wrong.
