Virginia Tech to retain Zohn Burden

Virginia Tech will retain assistant Zohn Burden, per 247 Sports, and switch his role to that of running backs coach. Burden had spent his first year with the Hokies as the wide receivers coach.

A former assistant at Old Dominion and Richmond, Burden is sticking around Blacksburg as the team gets used to the new regime under Justin Fuente, formerly of Memphis, after 29 years with Frank Beamer at the helm. He was instrumental in sophomore Isaiah Ford leading the ACC with 937 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns and is gaining traction as a strong recruiter.

He’s only 31 and not a major name in the coaching game just yet but given how Fuente could have brought in his own staff entirely, the fact that he’s keeping Burden aboard is a testament to the young coach’s skills on and off the field.
