Nintendo is hard at work on their followup console to the Wii U that the company hopes will turn them back into a player in the console race with Microsoft and Sony. The development of the new NX console has been kept pretty close to the veil, but it looks like details may be coming to light thanks to patents.
A June patent that was recently published by Nintendo features a controller with a full touchscreen. The patent’s abstract describes the controller as a device with buttons, two sticks and a display and touch panel. There are also handles for better grip of the device.
From the abstract:
A display panel and a touch panel constitute one main surface of the first portion. Holes are formed in left and right end portions of the display panel and the touch panel, and two operation sticks are provided through the two holes. When viewing the first portion from the front, an area except key tops of the operation sticks becomes a display area.
There is no confirmation that it’s the NX controller, but it’s definitely a controller that is being worked on by Nintendo. Hopefully we don’t have to wait much longer — E3 2016 is only six months away — for full details on Nintendo’s new console.
