The Auburn Tigers really had a problem stopping offenses this season and with Will Muschamp gone to South Carolina, it looks like they will start anew in 2016. Right now, they are looking down south for Muschamp’s possible replacement.
According to the Montgomery Adviser, South Florida defensive coordinator Tom Allen is a big favorite for the job under Gus Malzahn. He has done a great job this season with the Bulls, making their defense one of the best in the AAC, which led them to a second place finish in the division and the Miami Beach Bowl.
Right now, Malzahn hopes to get the defensive coordinator situation settled before their Birmingham Bowl game against Memphis.
“It would be good if we could,” Malzahn said Thursday during the Birmingham Bowl media conference. “The earlier the better, but at the same time this is a big decision. This is a big decision and I just want to make sure we get it right — and we will. We’ll go from there.”
Allen has experience in the SEC West, acting as linebackers coach for Ole Miss at one point.
