Class of 2016 four-star guard Andrew Jones, out of the Dallas area’s MacArthur High School, has committed to Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns. Jones, who was taking his official visit to Austin during the Longhorns’ win over North Carolina last weekend, discussed his decision with HoopSeen.
“It was amazing. The student section was crazy and so were the fans,” Jones said. “When I arrived, they knew who I was and then after the game, they were all yelling ‘Andrew’.”
Jones, a 6-foot-4 point guard who has a reputation as a slasher, should fit right into Coach Smart’s fast and feisty havoc system. He has some work to do in terms of getting stronger along with his three-point shooting, but he should fill out over the course of the next year.
On top of Texas, Jones was weighing offers from Louisville, Baylor, Arizona, Virginia, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and SMU.
Needless to say, with Jones’ addition, Texas is going to be looking a lot stronger under Smart than it did in 17 years under Rick Barnes.
