Georgia has selected who will call the plays in the Bulldogs’ bowl game against Penn State in January 2nd’s Taxslayer Bowl at Jacksonville’s EverBank Field. According to Marc Weiszer of The Athens Banner-Herald, tight ends coach John Lilly will call plays for the offense while outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer handles the defense.
If it seems circus-like on Georgia’s end, that’s because it is. Longtime coach Mark Richt stepped down at the end of the regular season and is now the head coach at Miami, and it was announced yesterday that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer would not coach in the bowl game. Defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt has already left the program to take the same position at Alabama
Speaking of Alabama, Richt’s successor, Kirby Smart, has said that he will not abandon his duties as the team’s defensive coordinator until after the College Football Playoff, where the Crimson Tide have a date with Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl.
That all being said, it’s certainly going to be interesting to see how Georgia looks against the Nittany Lions next month.
