Stanford has sold out its full ticket allotment for its New Year’s Day Rose Bowl matchup against Iowa.
Ready for the crazy part? Stanford’s allotment was fully accounted for within three days. That’s 28,000 tickets, plus an extra 2,000. That accounts for nearly a third of the Rose Bowl’s capacity.
This isn’t at all a surprise, as Stanford’s campus is just a six-hour drive up the coast from Pasadena. The fan base is already there in the state of California, not to mention the thousands upon thousands of alumni nationwide, so this might as well be a home game for the Cardinal.
There’s also the historical aspect to consider.
Stanford is playing Iowa for the first time ever and given how the Hawkeyes came within fingertips’ reach of a playoff bid this year, five’ll get you ten that Kirk Ferentz’s men will be playing with a chip on their shoulder.
Kickoff in Pasadena is slated for 5 p.m. ET on New Year’s Day.
