The Georgia Southern Eagles were shocked when second-year head coach Willie Fritz left for Tulane late last week and they have already began searching for their next head coach. It looks like they are already down to a few names and one of them is a name they are pretty familiar with.
According to BlueGoldSports, West Virginia defensive coordinator Tony Gibson is a finalist for the head coaching vacancy in Statesboro. He joins Penn State defensive coordinator Brent Pry, Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, Charleston Southern head coach Jamey Chadwell, and Army offensive coordinator Brent Davis as one of the five finalists.
The Eagles opened the season with the Mountaineers in Morgantown and were shut out 44-0. Bringing in the same guy that beat up on their offense to lead the team would probably be a good thing for the Eagles in the end.
Gibson was also considered for the Bowling Green vacancy before the team hired Mike Jinks a few weeks ago. Gibson has served two different stints with the Mountaineers as well as runs with Arizona, Pitt, and Michigan.
