In, by far, the most predictable match of the night, Bayley defeated the formerly undefeated Nia Jax to retain the NXT Women’s Championship.
From the beginning, it looked like the big and dangerous Jax would win the belt in a squash match and reassert her dominance, nailing the champ with four Samoan drops and then three leg drop finishers, but Bayley kicked out and maintained her reputation as one of the bravest in the business.
It all went downhill from there. Bayley, despite being beaten up badly, snapped on a guillotine choke multiple times before Jax finally fell to the ground and, ultimately, tapped out. It was a fun match to watch, but what about Nia Jax’s push? Here she was, taking NXT by storm by running over opponent after opponent, and allying herself with Eva Marie only upped her heat.
Now, at a pay-per-view, she didn’t get pinned, but tapped. What were they thinking????
Even if Bayley was going to win regardless, why not really put her over and have her perform the Bayley-to-Belly on the much larger Jax? That immediately would put her into John Cena-esque territory.
Just what’s next is anyone’s guess. Maybe another feud with Eva Marie? Maybe a rematch with Jax? Either way, Jax needs some much better booking.
