Cincinnati quarterback Gunner Kiel has not practiced with the team all week due to what is being described as “a personal matter” and his status for the team’s Hawaii Bowl game against San Diego State on the 24th is “unclear,” according to Tom Groeschen of The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Kiel, a junior from Indiana, threw for 2,777 yards and 19 touchdowns for the Bearcats this year and completed 65.2 percent of his passes. He missed to games due to injury and was 6-4 as a starter.
If Kiel is unable to play on Christmas Eve, the Bearcats would turn to redshirt freshman Hayden Moore, who threw for a school-record 557 yards in a loss to Memphis back in September following Kiel suffering a neck injury.
Not much else is known on Kiel’s status for the Hawaii Bowl and little details have been given regarding what is keeping him away from the field, but Campus Sports will update this story if any new information comes to light.
