NJCAA All-American WR Derrick Willies signs with Texas Tech

The Texas Tech Red Raiders had one of the strongest passing attacks in the Big 12 last season and it looks like it is just about to get stronger. They have landed one of the best receivers in the junior college ranks for next season.

Trinity Valley’s Derrick Willies had a terrific season this year, catching 49 receptions for 1,155 yards and 14 touchdowns. Texas Tech announced that Willies had officially signed with the team on Wednesday.

Willies’s 14 touchdowns was fifth in the NJCAA and he led the country with 23.6 yards per catch. He was recently named a NJCAA All-American.

His biggest game came in a 94-7 massacre of Texas A&T where he caught five passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Willies already has some minor experience in the FBS as he began his career with the Iowa Hawkeyes before transferring to JUCO.
