BYU, Utah players set rivalry aside for service projects

A long anticipated Las Vegas Bowl battle, between the Utah Utes and BYU Cougars will air on Saturday afternoon. Both teams have been at odds for quite some time.

In fact, it was just yesterday that Utah defensive tackle Viliseni Fauonuku, called his BYU rival dirty.

Despite that, both teams found it in their heart to help those in need.

Breaking into separate groups, players and coaches headed to two destinations in Las Vegas: Las Vegas Opportunity Village, which provides work opportunities to people with disabilities, and Squires Elementary School, where players handed disadvantaged students new shoes, socks and other gifts.

It’s encouraging when teams at odds can find a common denominator: compassion.
