Texas Tech has suspended second-leading receiver Devin Lauderdale indefinitely, almost surely ruling him out for the team’s Texas Bowl matchup against LSU on the 29th.
Lauderdale’s suspension was reported in an official release, which was reported by John Taylor of NBC Sports’ College Football Talk. In terms of reason, the release said that Lauderdale’s suspension was due to “failure to uphold Texas Tech Athletic Department Student-Athlete Expectations.”
The release said that Lauderdale “will have the opportunity to return next season,” but that doesn’t take away from the fact that the Red Raiders will be missing a key piece of their offense against a tough LSU defense. A former four-star recruit from the Houston area, Lauderdale had 43 catches for 639 yards and four touchdowns his junior season.
Whatever the true reason was for Lauderdale’s suspension, here’s hoping he gets his head screwed on straight so that he can go into next season with a clean slate and continue doing great work on the field.
