Former Maryland wide receiver Juwann Winfree is headed to Pittsburgh. Winfree, who spent last season at Kansas’ Coffeyville Community College after being dismissed from Maryland over a violation of the code of conduct, announced his commitment to the Panthers on Twitter.
A former four-star recruit from New Jersey, Winfree posted 11 catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns in six games with the Terps. He now joins a Pittsburgh team that completed only 190 passes last year, 85 of which went to Tyler Boyd. If Boyd decides to return for his senior season, the Panthers’ passing attack suddenly won’t be so one-sided, as nobody other than Boyd in 2015 caught more than 24 passes.
Needless to say, Pitt’s receiving game will either become much more dangerous with Winfree on board, or provide a smooth transition should Boyd opt to turn professional.
