Video: Mexican soccer team holds Star Wars-themed press conference

Star Wars fever is taking over the planet, following the release of “Star Wars, Episode VII: The Force Awakens” last week.

We have seen the influence of Star Wars throughout the sports world in recent days, with the latest example coming in Liga MX, the top-flight soccer league in Mexico.

Mexican club Pachuca welcomed U.S. international Omar Gonzalez to the team on Tuesday, after a completed transfer from the MLS. During his introductory press conference, a very bizarre moment occured when Gonzalez’s Star Wars fandom resulted in him walking out to the podium dressed as Jim Harbaugh’s favorite character, Darth Vader.

Pachuca is going all-in with their Star Wars love, “Refuerzos Tuzos” campaign — translated to Pachuca Reinforcements — that welcomes the club’s newest transfers.

Just look at these welcome graphics for defender Óscar Murillo, goalkeeper Rafael Ramírez and midfielder Steven Almeida.

Well done, Pachuca. We appreciate the effort.

For the sake of the club, let’s hope the force is with them when they open up the 2016 Apertura.
