Once again, the Denver Broncos are going to go into battle in a crucial game with Brock Osweiler under center.
Head coach Gary Kubiak announced the official decision on Wednesday during his weekly media briefing. It will be Osweiler’s sixth straight start for a Broncos team that can still clinch the number one seed in the AFC as well as miss the playoffs entirely.
Kubiak also added that Peyton Manning isn’t expected to practice on Wednesday or even be on the active roster against Cincinnati on Monday night.
Monday’s game is the biggest of the season for both Denver and Cincinnati. The winner controls their own destiny for a first-round bye in the playoffs while the loser is likely to be playing on Wild Card weekend. For both teams, that isn’t something either wants.
The Bengals would love the extra week to prepare, and, potentially, get starting quarterback Andy Dalton back. For the Broncos, whether they want to admit it or not, Manning is likely the guy they want under center in the playoffs this year. The bye week would be exactly what the doctor ordered for the team.
Then again, if they can’t pull off a win on Monday night not only could a bye be out of the question, but so can the playoffs.
