USC and former interim coach Ed Orgeron are discussing a potential reunion, according to Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Orgeron, currently an assistant at LSU, has apparently spoken to coach Clay Helton about returning to the Trojans as a defensive line coach. Per Wolf, if Orgeron does return, “any deal could be contingent on whether athletic director Pat Haden approves on Orgeron returning and nothing will probably be determined until after LSU’s season is over.”
Just the same, there’s no denying that Orgeron is a beloved figure in Troy even if his departure was a bit salty. He took over as head coach on an interim basis following the firing of Lane Kiffin and went 6-2 (6-1 Pac-12) and was interested in staying on as head coach but was passed over for Steve Sarkisian, who was fired early into this season.
This story is pure speculation as of now, but be sure to stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates on Orgeron’s potential return to Southern California.
