Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer will be coaching his final game in his illustrious 29-year career on Saturday as the Hokies take on Tulsa in the Camping World Independence Bowl. The team will be without one of its biggest players after he was one of three players suspended for the game.
According to ESPN, starting linebacker Deon Clarke and wide receiver Kevin Asante were suspended following the team’s first night in Shreveport, Louisiana, the site of their bowl game. Wide receiver Demitri Knowles never made the trip with the Hokies and will not play either.
“To me, all those little things are a sign of this game is important or not important,” Beamer said. “That’s me.”
The three players are seniors and would have been playing in their final game. Clarke has had trouble in the past as he was suspended for the Georgia Tech game earlier this year for disciplinary reasons.
Freshman Tremaine Edmunds, who played in place of Clarke in the that game, will start in the bowl. Clarke recorded 77 tackles and three sacks on the year.
The Hokies will take the field against the Golden Hurricane at 5:45 p.m. EST on ESPN tonight.
