Video: Watch Frank Beamer’s emotional exit

|

Frank Beamer coached the final game of his career last night after 29 years with Virginia Tech, and his team came together to pull off an outstanding 55-52 win over Tulsa in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport.

After the game, as Virginia Tech left the field, fans then chanted Beamer’s name as he rode off into the proverbial sunset as a hero, a legend, an institution. Andy Bitter of The Roanoke Times posted the following video to Twitter.

Beamer never won a national championship, nor were his teams ever as dominant as those coached by the likes of Nick Saban or Urban Meyer, and he had a sub-.500 bowl record, but he still went 280-143-4 in a career that spanned over three decades and molded some great players under his watch.

Needless to say, he had a tremendous effect on so many lives and will be greatly missed, so it’s only fitting that he go out to a hero’s chant.
