A jury awarded former WWE star Hulk Hogan $115 million in his lawsuit against tabloid site Gawker over the release of part of his sex tape, according to TMZ.
It’s quite the victory for the former star, who was only seeking $100 million. He has thus earned himself a nice chunk of change because his story must have struck a chord with the jury.
Hogan’s sex tape first made headlines three years ago when Gawker released it. This trial in particular is interesting because the six-member jury, with the trial being held in Florida, came to its verdict without even watching the tape in question. That alone adds the question of validity. How could such a decision be reached without the tape being watched? Moreover, it was on the jury to decide whether the tape was “outside the bounds of human decency” and thus caused Hogan public embarrassment. Without actually seeing the tape, how can that be decided?
Either way, it’s a huge victory for Hulk Hogan and a big blow to Gawker. The case will surely be appealed, so stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates!
